About FreeObfuscator
A focused tool from a developer-tools company that has been shipping since 2003.
Who builds this
FreeObfuscator is built and operated by Richscripts Inc., also known for the CuteSoft range of developer components. The company has been making and supporting tools for developers since 2003 — rich text editors, file upload components, live chat software and code protection tools.
That history matters here more than it might for other products. This tool asks you to upload compiled software, so who is on the other end is a fair question. The answer is a company with a two-decade trading history and a support address that is answered — not an anonymous endpoint.
What we build
FreeObfuscator sits in a family of developer tools, several of them in the same code-protection space:
- JavaScript Obfuscator — protection for JavaScript source
- RichTextEditor — HTML editing components across several platforms
- MyLiveChat — live chat for websites
- File upload components for ASP.NET, PHP and JavaScript
The full range is listed in the footer of every page and at cutesoft.net.
What we believe about code protection
This shapes the whole product, so it is worth putting plainly.
Obfuscation is oversold. It raises the cost of reverse engineering; it does not make code unreadable, and it will not stop a determined attacker with time. Vendors who imply otherwise are selling a feeling rather than a control.
So we say what it does not do. Our own documentation states that we do symbol renaming only, that string literals are untouched, and that client-side licence checks can be defeated. Our comparison pages say where competitors are stronger and recommend them when they fit better. A developer who finds out the limits from us rather than from a failed release is more likely to come back.
The tool should be usable in a minute. Plenty of protection tools require a configuration file, a licence and an afternoon. Sometimes that is warranted. Often you just want to know what obfuscation does to your assembly, and that should not cost you an afternoon to find out.
How the product works commercially
The free tier is genuinely free and needs no account — one file at a time, up to 1 MB. It is not a crippled trial designed to force an upgrade; it is the whole obfuscation engine, with limits on volume.
Pro at $29/month raises the file size to 100 MB, allows batches of up to 20 files, and adds an API for build pipelines. Cancellation is self-serve at any time from your account. There is no long-term commitment and no cancellation call to make.
